Today is kids day at Adventist Hospital Santiago City where a volunteer group of eye surgeons and specialists are operating on those unable to afford cataract surgery.
While cataract is most commonly found in older patients it does occur in children and sometimes from birth. Several of the children on today’s waiting list come from families where the father has died and the mother is working to support three, four sometimes five children.
Today we met 4 year old Queenee whose cataract was a result of being kicked in the eye with a soccer ball. Queenee starts school this year and without her full sight will be at a disadvantage before she’s even begun. She told our team that she wants to be a police officer when she grows up.
The team hope that surgery will restore her sight in that eye but only time will tell.
You can help children like Queenee receive the surgery they need.
