Celebrating 40 Years of Sight Saving Work

A Message from Professor Frank Billson, Founder of Foresight Australia…

As we head into the festive season and the end of another year, I am delighted to share with you that this year marks the 40th anniversary of Foresight’s work – starting in Bangladesh where we have been instrumental in helping more than 1.3 million people receive the gift of sight.

1978 was the year the liberal government under Malcolm Fraser provided $1.8M to ophthalmologists of Australia to survey blindness and develop prevention of blindness programs in rural areas. This was also the year that Foresight Australia became the first overseas prevention of blindness organisation in Australia responding to an appeal from Bangladesh.

The landmark goal was achieved when the Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex that Foresight helped to build and fund celebrated one million sight-saving cataract operations in 2003.

Our achievements across the past 40 years are only possible thanks to you and your ongoing support for our cause. Thank you for sharing our vision.

Now, more than ever, we need your help to continue our important work, which is now focused in the Philippines.
